Representatives from children’s charities and staff at the Orange County Register met at the Register’s headquarters today to celebrate the results of the 2013 Register Campership Fund, which awarded $88,860 to seven local charities that send underprivileged children to summer camp.
Register Editor Ken Brusic welcomed guests, and discussed how the Campership Fund ties into the Register’s mission of building community.
Pete Deutschman, Chief Buddy at digital engagement agency The Buddy Group, also spoke to attendees about partnering with the Register on the 2013 Campership Fund campaign and what the camp experience meant to him growing up. He said he modeled his agency around a camp theme, and strives to operate in the same encouraging, inviting and inquisitive manner.
Deutschman hosted the Buddy Up! Invitational, a golf tournament, dinner and silent auction March 4 at Aliso Viejo Country Club, to benefit the 2013 Register Campership Fund. Initial plans are underway for a 2014 tournament.
The Register’s Courtney Perkes published a series of stories about children who benefited from their experiences at summer camp as part of its annual fund-raising campaign. The articles ran in the Local section of the newspaper each Sunday from July 7 to Sept. 1, and online at OCRegister.com. Each article included an invitation to donate to the campaign. The 2013 fund-raising effort was the Register’s 44th annual Campership Fund campaign.
Funds raised for the 2013 campaign were divvied up and distributed to the following benefiting agencies:
-Anaheim Family YMCA
-Boy Scouts of America, Orange County Council
-Boys & Girls Clubs in Orange County
-Camp Fire USA Orange County Council
-Girl Scout Council of Orange County
-YMCA of Orange
-YMCA of Orange County
The Register Campership Fund is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, with 100 percent of campaign funds going directly toward sending kids to camp.
